education &
young people

The Drill Hall has always been at the heart of movements of cultural, social and political change.

For example, it initiated, hosted and was central to the Arts Lobby against Section 28.

This role continues with The Drill Hall's crucial outreach work amongst young LGBT people and its role as home to Schools OUT and LGBT History Month.

Through its education work, The Drill Hall has produced an exceptional programme for schools that addresses homophobia and its consequences.

DHYT 09 - The Drill Hall Youth Theatre

The Drill Hall is offering young people the chance to take part in two special theatre projects this summer.

11-14s

This brand-new, one-week youth theatre is designed for kids with LGBT families.

16-19s

The Drill Hall's youth theatre for 16-19s is particularly for young people who identify as LGBT. It is designed to be welcoming of everyone regardless of their background. The only criterion is participants should love performing.

FIT

FIT by Rikki Beadle-Blair toured nationally to critical acclaim in 2007. The Drill Hall offered schools another opportunity to see the production in autumn 2008.

Trumpet

The Drill Hall's education programme has also included Grace Barnes's adaptation of Jackie Kay's Trumpet, for which Cathy Tyson won Best Actress in a Visiting Production at the Manchester Evening News Awards in 2006.
