"I have been to The Drill Hall for many years and seen a huge variety of theatre, music and art that has been aimed squarely at the gay community.

"It's so refreshing to have a space that gay men and women can call their own and be able to take a chance on new work that we know will be of interest to our sexuality.

"You can not do this in the commercial or subsidised sector where gay interest work is practically non-existent.

"The LGBT community desperately need role models and this was a place where I used to find a lot of solace.

"In its letter to The Drill Hall the Arts Council said it has 'serious concerns over the sustainability' of the organisation. How can that be when they are celebrating 30 years of wonderful creativity?

"When the government claims it is promoting diversity how can it be right that one or the few places where this is actively shown is being penalised? This is wrong and unfair to the gay population.

"London is the UK's gay capital and it needs its own queer cultural voice and a space for world class LGBT culture to take centre stage. The city will be worse off and dull without it.

"The Drill Hall provides a central, one-stop shop where the gay community can look to its own and seek enlightenment, entertainment and education.

"It is a unique space and should be saved as a vital toil in creating understanding between communities, where homophobia is often rife, and helping to educate schools and young people."

"The Drill Hall is a vital partner in a national touring circuit for lesbian and gay artists.

"Over 30 years they have contributed to the development of exciting new and emergent talent, new writing and provided a unique platform for an under-represented area.

"The advancement of equalities legislation should mean that organisations at the forefront of promotion of LGBT equality should be retained and uplifted in capacity and funding.

"Withdrawal of funding from The Drill Hall by ACE sends out all the wrong signals about tolerance and understanding of LGBT peoples as positive role models.

"Whilst homophobia is reducing certain areas of society there is still a long way to go and The Drill Hall is a beacon of hope and a centre of support for the advancement of our cause.

"Closure of The Drill Hall would cause a total collapse in support for new work by LGBT artists."
